The Missouri Senate Minute for Jan. 8: Session Begins

Missouri senators officially begin the Second Regular Session of the 100th General Assembly. Already, more than 300 measures, and more than 20 resolutions, have been pre-filed in just the Missouri Senate. Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz of Sullivan says there could be multiple approaches to public safety concerns this session…

“We’ll be looking forward to, you know, getting a grasp of exactly what people are doing to try to address that very, very important topic,” Sen. Schatz said.

Several proposals that relate to public safety — and, more specifically, gun safety — await committee assignment for this session. Missouri Senate Minority Floor Leader Gina Walsh of Bellefontaine Neighbors cites recent terrorist attacks in European countries where guns are not allowed…

“Knives they can get. They can’t get the guns,” Sen. Walsh said. “So, that made all the sense in the world to me, and I wondered why would they be using knives? Now, we know.”

The first committee hearings could happen as early as next week.
