JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Dan Hegeman, R-Cosby, issued the following statement regarding the governor’s decision to place the Medicaid expansion issue on the August primary election ballot:
“As chairman of the Senate’s Appropriations Committee, I applaud the governor’s decision to place the Medicaid expansion issue on the August primary election ballot. As our state continues to see general revenue fall due to the COVID-19 virus, I believe this is the right decision when it comes to an issue that could cost our state millions of dollars per year in the foreseeable future. If Missourians elect to expand our state’s Medicaid program, we will need as much time as possible to prepare our state for the financial impact of this decision. This isn’t about politics, it’s about planning for the future, and I believe the governor’s decision gives lawmakers and budget experts the time necessary to prepare for the financial consequences if Medicaid expansion were to pass in August.”
