Introduced

SB 576 - This act provides that a county treasurer shall have access to any document in possession of any county official that the treasurer requests that is financially relevant for the purposes of processing a warrant. Additionally, no official of any county shall refuse a request from the county treasurer for access to or a copy of any document in the possession of a county official that is financially relevant to his or her duties regarding salaries of county officers, deputies, and assistants.

Under current law, the failure or refusal of a county treasurer or other county officer to perform his or her duties under this provision shall result in a misdemeanor, a fine of $100 to $500, and vacating his or her office. This act removes the limitation of $500 for the fine and removes vacating the office as a penalty.

This act is similar to SB 53 (2019).
