Current Bill Summary

SB 1042 - Under this act, no person shall be subjected to discrimination on the basis of race in any program or activity conducted by an educational institution that receives or benefits from state financial assistance or enrolls pupils who receive state student financial aid.

The term "race", under this act, shall include traits historically associated with race, including, but not limited to, hair texture and protective hairstyles. "Protective hairstyles" shall include, but is not limited to, such hairstyles as braids, locks, and twists.

This act is identical to HB 2356 (2020) and HCS/SCS/SB 662 (2020).
