Current Bill Summary

SB 1001 - This act modifies a category of vehicle defined to be a "salvage vehicle" by removing the requirement that the damage to the vehicle occurred no more than 6 years after the vehicle's designated model year, and by providing that the definition shall not apply when a person retains ownership of the damaged vehicle. (Section 301.010(54)(a))

The act also repeals a provision of law specifying that application for a salvage title shall be mandatory for purchasers when a vehicle is purchased for salvage, dismantling, or rebuilding within 6 years after its model year, but is optional if the vehicle is purchased more than 6 years after the vehicle's model year. (Section 301.227.1)

This act is identical to HB 2344 (2020).
