Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 663 - This act modifies provisions relating to the carrying of concealed firearms.

OFFENSE OF UNLAWFUL USE OF WEAPONS (Section 571.030)

Under current law, a person commits the offense of unlawful use of weapons if he or she knowingly carries a firearm into a church or place where people have assembled for worship. This act modifies those provisions to prohibit a person carrying a firearm into a church or place of worship if such place has posted a sign of certain dimensions on the premises as being off-limits to concealed firearms.

CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS (Section 571.107)

Under current law, a person is prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm:

• Any church without the consent of the minister or person representing the religious organization;

• Any private property whose owner has posted a sign prohibiting firearms on the premises; and

• Any sports arena or stadium with a seating capacity of 5,000 or more.

This act modifies these provisions to allow a person to carry a concealed firearm into a church or other place of worship or any privately owned sports arena with a seating capacity of 5,000 or more, unless such place has posted a sign of certain dimensions prohibiting firearms.

CITY ORDINANCES (Section 571.108)

This act provides that any county, city, town, village, municipality, or other political subdivision is prohibited from imposing any rule, policy, ordinance, contractual requirement, or agreement of any type that prohibits any employee of such entity who holds a valid concealed carry permit from carrying a concealed weapon in any area that such person is authorized to carry a concealed weapon under the law.
