State Senator Lauren Arthur Takes Oath of Office

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Lauren Arthur, D–Kansas City, took the oath of office in front of friends, family and fellow senators as she was sworn in to represent the 17th Senatorial District. The ceremony occurred prior to the start of the General Assembly’s annual veto session.

“I feel humbled to represent Clay County in the Missouri Senate. People here are my friends, family and neighbors; it is my honor to serve them and advocate on their behalf, “ Sen. Arthur said. “I believe that most of us value the same things. We want high-performing schools, good jobs and government that is ethical, transparent and accountable. These are my priorities. They will guide my work in the Missouri Senate.”

Sen. Arthur served four years in the Missouri House where she was the ranking minority member of the Health and Mental Health Policy Committee, while also working on the Administration and Accounts and General Laws Committees. Sen. Arthur also served on the Interim Committee on Stabilizing Missouri’s Health Insurance Markets as well as the Legislative Task Force on Dyslexia.

“I thank everyone who put forward extra effort to vote in the June 5th special election,” said Sen. Arthur. “And I am so grateful to all those who have supported me and helped make this opportunity possible.”

The 2019 legislative session begins Jan. 9 at noon and will conclude May 17, 2019.
