Senator Hough Begins the 2019 Session with Several Priorities in Mind

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Lincoln Hough, R-Springfield, was officially sworn into office as the First Regular Session of the 100th General Assembly began yesterday (1/9). Most recently, Sen. Hough served on the Greene County Commission. Prior to this, he spent six years in the Missouri House of Representatives.

“I am excited to represent Springfield in the Missouri Senate for the next four years,” Sen. Hough said. “We have so many opportunities for growth in the 30th Senatorial District. From my years in the Missouri House and a member of the Greene County Commission, I am fortunate to bring a unique skill set with me to the upper chamber. Along with my colleagues, my goal is to make Missouri better and stronger for the future.”

Lawmakers have been able to prefile legislation since Dec. 1, 2018. Senator Hough has several items ready for 2019, which include:

  • Senate Bill 68, a measure that would make changes to state law relating to workforce development;
  • Senate Bill 69, legislation that seeks to establish procedures for a claimant in an action for damages due to asbestos exposure to disclose additional claims the claimant has filed with an asbestos trust; and
  • Senate Bill 70, which would modify provisions relating to personal care assistance services.

Committee hearings for 2019 will begin once Missouri senators learn their committee assignments for the new session. After these hearings have begun, legislation can then make its way to the full Missouri Senate for consideration.

“We have a lot to accomplish in a small amount of time,” Sen. Hough said. “Between now and May 17, not only do we have hundreds of measures to examine, but we also must pass a balanced budget for the next fiscal year. I am looking forward to meeting this challenge and serving the citizens of the 30th Senatorial District.”
