Bills and Committees

During the past week, Sen. Nasheed introduced several new pieces of legislation for her colleagues in the Missouri Senate to consider.

Senate Bill 404 – This bill allows tenants to terminate their lease in certain situations of domestic violence, stalking or sexual assault. This bill was first read and has not yet been referred to a committee for a hearing.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 18 – This resolution urges the Missouri attorney general to join a lawsuit challenging the validity of the president’s declaration of a national emergency. It has been referred to the Senate’s Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee for a hearing.

Senate Joint Resolution 22 – This proposed constitutional amendment requires any changes to the Missouri Constitution regarding the form of government for one or more counties, cities or towns to be approved by a majority of voters in the affected area in order to go into effect. Practically speaking, if this proposed constitutional amendment is approved by voters, any merger between the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County that modifies the state constitution would have to be approved by a majority of city and county voters in order to be implemented.

Other News

Senator Nasheed will be visiting the Rockwell Beer Company with the lieutenant governor as part of the Buy Missouri program on Friday, Feb. 22. The visit will consist of a tour of the recently opened facility, as well as an in-person application acceptance into the Buy Missouri program. Buy Missouri is an economic development initiative meant to actively promote products grown, manufactured, processed and/or made in Missouri to other states and the world. Senator Nasheed believes it is incredibly important to support local businesses like the Rockwell Beer Company, and this event provides a great opportunity to highlight made in Missouri products.
