Wrapping Up the 2019 Legislative Session
On Friday, May 17, the Missouri General Assembly officially concluded the 2019 legislative session. As session drew to a close, lawmakers worked around the clock putting the finishing touches on some of the year’s most important pieces of legislation. Many bills were approved by both houses of the State Legislature and sent to the governor for his consideration.
Some of the most notable measures approved during the last week of session include:
- House Bill 126, which bans abortion procedures after eight weeks of pregnancy;
- Senate Bill 68, which expands state-authorized workforce development initiatives;
- Senate Bill 224, which reforms rules of discovery in civil court cases; and
- Senate Joint Resolution 14, which authorizes a statewide referendum on whether to establish term limits for the offices of lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and state auditor.
In addition to the above pieces of legislation, a few of my sponsored bills were also approved by the General Assembly during the final week of session:
- Senate Bill 213, which brings transparency and structure to the new position of nonpartisan state demographer; and
- Senate Concurrent Resolution 2, which requests Congress place a statue of Harry S Truman in the Statuary Hall of the United States Capitol.
