Senator Shalonn "Kiki" Curls, a Democrat, represents part of Jackson County (District 9) in the Missouri Senate. After serving in the Missouri House since 2007, she won a special election to the Missouri Senate in February 2011. Senator Curls won re-election to the Senate in 2012 and again in 2016. <<more

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, recognized on January 15. This year marks 50 years since his assassination and I am honored to be a beneficiary of his sacrifices and contributions to our society. As a member of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus, it is important to take a moment to reflect on Dr. King’s message to uphold the core values of peace, brotherhood and equality. For the citizens of Missouri, this means taking a look within ourselves and our communities with the intent to stand united when executing a peaceful action plan. As we celebrate his birthday, I hope you took a moment to reflect on his message and his contributions to our society as we continue to uplift each other and work towards our common goals.
