Senate Majority Leader Meets with Mayors, Police Chiefs to Discuss Shared Priorities

JEFFERSON CITY –  On Monday, Missouri Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden (R-Columbia) met with the mayors and police chiefs of St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia and Springfield to discuss shared priorities for the upcoming year.

Lawmakers are already drafting proposals for the legislative session which begins in January; meeting with local officials is an essential component of that process.

“Half of the battle in politics is simply taking time to stop talking, meet people where they are and listen,” said Rowden. “I’m grateful the governor recognizes this as well, and has made it a point to engage leaders from both parties at every level of government. The relationships,” he added, “between state and local policymakers are strong and yielding positive, substantive policy discussions.”

Monday’s agenda included discussions on violent crime, police resources and the impact those factors have on local schools, economic development and overall quality of life. Those concerns, according to Rowden, will top his legislative agenda and shape the conversation in Jefferson City.

“I appreciate our mayors and police chiefs, and their efforts to educate and engage state lawmakers like myself. The challenges we face are significant and can only be seriously addressed by working together,” concluded Rowden.
