Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 135 - This act changes the maximum value, adjusted annually for inflation, of certain items that are exempt from attachment and execution in bankruptcy proceedings, including household items, wedding rings and other jewelry, professional books or tools of trade, motor vehicles, mobile homes, and unmatured life insurance contracts.

Additionally, this act adds a person's interest in payments that he or she received due to a personal bodily injury claim to the list of property that can be exempt from attachment and execution. However, any sum due and legally owed to a health care provider under a right of subrogation for unpaid health care services shall not be exempt.

This act is similar to SB 732 (2018).
