HCS/HB 744 - This act establishes the "21st Century Missouri Education Task Force", whose mission shall be to evaluate the condition of the state's public education system, including the standardized testing system, and other state education programs and education funding as set forth in the act. The task force shall present a report on the task force's findings, activities and recommendations to the General Assembly before August 28, 2020.
The task force shall consist of certain members set forth in the act, including three members of the House of Representatives, and three members of the Senate. The chair of the task force shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate shall appoint the vice chair.
Members of the task force shall serve without compensation, except for actual and necessary expenses incurred in attending meetings of the task force or any subcommittee thereof.
The task force shall hold its first meeting within two months from the effective date of the act, and shall suspend its operations on January 1, 2021. At such time, all members of the task force shall be relieved of their positions.
The task force shall resume operations on January 1, 2026, with a new set of members to be selected according to the procedures in the act. Upon resumption, the task force shall review all summaries and recommendations previously made, and shall continue to carry out the mission set forth in the act. The task force shall report an updated summary of its activities and any recommendations for legislation to the General Assembly before August 28, 2026. The task force shall then provide additional updated summaries and recommendations at such times as deemed necessary.
This act shall sunset 12 years after the effective date of the act, unless reauthorized by the General Assembly.
