- Prepared by Senate Research -

HB 159 - This act modifies provisions relating to outdoor advertising.

This act modifies the definition of "unzoned commercial and industrial land" to include lands in the same dimensions as existing "unzoned commercial and industrial land" located on the opposite side of a nonfreeway and noninterstate primary highway, irrespective of actual zoning and use. This definition shall not extend to land adjacent to a freeway primary highway or interstate highway.

This act also provides that the one-time $200 fee for an outdoor advertising permit shall be waived for persons owning the land on which an outdoor advertisement is placed, so long as the person also owns the business being advertised and the business is located within 750 feet of the sign location. This waiver shall be granted to new construction as well as existing structures. This act further specifies that the $100 biennial inspection fees shall be waived for such landowners.

This act is identical to SB 624 (2018) and HB 1459 (2018), and similar to HB 56 (2017).
