Statement from Senator Denny Hoskins Regarding the Governor’s Indictment

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Denny Hoskins, R-Warrensburg, today issued the following statement relating to the news of the governor being indicted on felony charges.

“As the situation facing the governor evolves and with the recent felony indictment, it has become apparent the grand jury believes there is sufficient evidence to compel the governor to testify. According to the Missouri Constitution, if impeachment proceedings are warranted, they begin in the House of Representatives.

As your state senator it is not my role to be judge nor jury. However, I do believe it will be difficult for the governor to lead and govern our state while these charges are pending. The governor must not only do what is right for the State of Missouri, but also what is right for his children and his wife.

I urge the governor to swiftly decide if he will have the ability to discharge the powers and duties of his office. We are in the middle of the legislative session and I want to get back to the business of the state; crafting a balanced budget and working on legislation that makes Missouri a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
