Senator Crawford’s Capitol Report, for the Week of March 26

Crawford---CapReport

Easter - 032918

My first session in the Missouri Senate is passing by quickly. My intent was to file very few bills and to use this session learning the procedures in the Senate. That plan quickly evolved into something entirely different. When bill filing ended on March 1, I had filed more bills this year than in previous years. My staff and I are currently working on around 20 bills. Many of these bills streamline and update current law in a variety of areas.

This week, one of the bills I filed made it across the finish line and will now be sent to the governor for his consideration. My original Senate Bill 915, a tort reform bill, was added to House Bill 1531. My portion of the bill limits contingency fees paid out to attorneys when they are defending the state of Missouri in specific legal cases. This measure can literally save Missouri taxpayers millions of dollars in the future. I look forward to this bill being signed into law. Three other pieces of legislation I filed were sent to the House this week for their consideration as well. In total, almost half of the bills I filed have passed in the Senate and been sent to the House.

As we approach Easter Sunday, I want to wish you and your family a very happy and blessed Easter. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Due to the number of visitors we receive from the district each week, I encourage you to call my office ahead of your visit to schedule an appointment.
