Introduced

SJR 36 - This constitutional amendment, if approved by the voters, provides for a sales tax at the rate of 0.4% to provide for adequate law enforcement on state roads. The revenue generated by such sales tax shall be deposited in the Missouri Law Enforcement Trust Fund, which is created by the amendment. Moneys in the fund shall not revert to the General Revenue Fund, and shall be used solely for the actual costs of the state highway patrol in administering and enforcing any state motor vehicle laws or traffic regulations, or for such other state highway patrol functions as the General Assembly deems appropriate, for grants to municipal and county law enforcement agencies for equipment and training, to provide for the families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, and for the actual cost of an annual audit of all funds generated by the sales tax and expended as authorized by the amendment. The State Auditor shall conduct such annual audit.

The provisions of this amendment shall become effective on July 1, 2019.
