SB 1033 - Under this act, any person committed to the care of an authorized agency who is 18 years old or older may petition the court to terminate such custody. The court may grant such petition upon a hearing and no sooner than 14 calendar days following the initial petition, absent extenuating circumstances. During those 14 days, the person's family support team shall have a meeting with the person and discuss the benefits available if the person were to remain in the care of the state that may become unavailable if the person terminates custody. The person and family support team shall develop a transition plan regarding employment, housing, transportation, education, and personal support. The family support team shall make recommendations to the Children's Division and the Division shall make a formal statement to the court as to whether or not termination of custody would be in the best interests of the person.
