HB 2499 Modifies provisions relating to videoconferencing for parole hearings

Current Bill Summary

- Prepared by Senate Research -

HB 2499 - Currently, videoconferencing may be used to hold a hearing to determine whether to grant conditional release or parole or any other purpose at the discretion of the parole board. However, if the offender, the victim, or the victim's family objects to the use of videoconferencing for the hearing, videoconferencing shall not be used.

This act provides that videoconferencing may still be used in the event that the offender objects to its usage.

This act is identical to a provision of HCB 20 (2018) and substantially similar to a provision of HCS/SS/SCS/SB 966 (2018), a provision of HCS/HB 2397 (2018), and a provision of SS/SCS/HB 1355 (2018).
