Senator Caleb Rowden’s Legislative Column for the Week of Jan. 8: Ready to Serve the 19th Senate District

Rowden Column Banner

Wednesday, Jan. 4 marked the beginning of the 99th General Assembly and my first term as your 19th District state senator. I joined four other newly elected senators and 12 returning senators in taking the oath of office; together, the 33 of us are ready to work for you and our great state.

At the conclusion of the first week, the Senate pro tem announced committee assignments. I am humbled to have been chosen to serve as the vice chairman of the standing Senate Committee on Professional Registration. I have also been assigned to serve on the Economic Development, Government Reform, Local Government and Elections, and Insurance and Banking committees. Here is a brief overview of these committees’ responsibilities:

  • Professional Registration — consider bills and matters relating to departments, boards, bureaus, and commissions of the state government, the internal operation of any state agency, and the effect of federal legislation upon state agencies
  • Economic Development — consider bills and matters relating to economic development, job creation and retention, tourism, and community and business development
  • Government Reform — review, study, and investigate matters relating to the application, execution, and effectiveness of state laws and programs, the organization of state agencies, and improving governmental efficiency and management
  • Insurance and Banking — consider bills and matters relating to the ownership and operation of insurance, banking, and other financial institutions
  • Local Government and Elections — consider bills and matters relating to elections and county governments, township organizations, and political subdivisions

Following our swearing in and committee announcements, my colleagues and I began the second week of session with the inauguration of our newly elected statewide officials. I look forward to working with our new governor and his administration to address job creation and economic growth, new investments in education, and strengthening our public safety.

I am here to serve you, and my office door is always open to your questions, concerns and suggestions. You can reach my staff at 573-751-3931 and an array of legislative and constituent resources at www.senate.mo.gov/rowden.
