JEFFERSON CITY — Senator Gina Walsh, D-Bellefontaine Neighbors, is urging residents and families of the 13th District to consider attending one of the free April events hosted by the state Department of Conservation (MDC).
“For families who are on a tight budget, it can be difficult to find fun activities that are also affordable. Thankfully, the MDC is dedicated to providing fun, educational events, year-round, at no cost to families,” Sen. Walsh said. “I strongly encourage constituents to get outside, enjoy the warmer spring weather and take advantage of these great upcoming programs.”
The following events will be held at the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area in April:
- Birds of the Confluence, a Photo Display by Paul Moffett
Date: Through Friday, April 15
Ages: All agesBirds of the Confluence, a compilation of aviary admiration, serves as inspirational reminders to reflect on the beauty and peace that can be found in nature. Photos were taken at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area, and Ted and Pat Jones Confluence Point State Park. The exhibition will run from Feb. 6 through April 15. Reservations are not required.
- Sunset and Moonrise Photo/Viewing Opportunity and Walk
Date: Friday, April 22
Time: 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Ages: All agesView the loveliest events of an evening, the sunset and moonrise. We will have a meet and greet at parking lot M (about 4 miles from the entrance). We will start our night with a walk to the Cropland Overlook to enjoy the sunset. The wide open view from the overlook offers fantastic photo opportunities. Next, we will take a twilight walk through the woods to the Confluence of the two largest rivers in North America, where we will be able to watch the moon rise over the water. In total, we will walk about 1.5 miles. Reserve by April 21.

Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is in north St. Louis County at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. To reach the area, go north approximately 2.8 miles from the I-270 Riverview Drive exit. Riverview Drive becomes Columbia Bottom Road at its intersection with Larimore Road.
