Sen. Doub Libla’s April 18 Update

Ameren just raised your electric rates and wanting to do it AGAIN – unchecked!

Once again, for-profit “monopoly” utilities such as Ameren are pulling out all the stops with Senate Bill 190 which seeks to throw out the regulatory rulebook and institute mandatory rate hikes for consumers. Of course, they didn’t frame it as such – instead, they are trying to mislead legislators and the public by using phrases like “grid investment.” Folks, it is not about the GRID it is all about the GREED! Utilities are already charging YOU to keep their infrastructure in good shape while making huge profits and are wanting more.

Perhaps most outrageous, utilities such as Ameren want control of the ratemaking process by rendering the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) powerless. For over 100 years the PSC has been the only checks and balances keeping monopoly utilities from unfairly raising our rates.

This is my 5th year in the Missouri Senate opposing unfair electric utility legislation that severely diminishes PSC oversight in defending rate payers – such as yourself. I take seriously my responsibility to the citizens of my district and all across this state in keeping our hard working families and businesses from being unfairly targeted by unscrupulous utility companies.
