Current Bill Summary

SB 218 - This act creates the Missouri Emergency Solutions Grants Program (ESGP), which, subject to appropriations, shall be administered by the Department of Social Services in cooperation with the Missouri Housing Development Commission and in a manner consistent with the state's administration of the current federal ESGP. The Missouri ESGP shall be designed to address the problem of homelessness in Missouri. The Department shall make grants to qualifying entities to implement activities to address the needs of homeless individuals and families and assist them to regain stability in permanent housing as quickly as possible. Such activities may include: (1) engaging homeless individuals and families living on the street, (2) operating homeless shelters and providing essential services to shelter residents, (3) rapidly rehousing homeless individuals and families, and (4) preventing individuals and families from becoming homeless.
