Honoring American Liberty

It’s that time of year again where we join our families, friends and fellow Americans to honor the anniversary of our country’s independence. Many of us will gather for backyard barbeques, watch parades roll down main streets in our hometowns and marvel at the nighttime fireworks displays. Over the past 14 years as a legislator, I’ve been involved in countless Independence Day celebrations and have shared in the spirited community celebrations that make each July 4th uniquely American. It truly is one of the best days of the year.

No matter how you choose to celebrate the upcoming holiday, I urge you to keep in mind the brave members of the U.S. military who have fought for our freedom. Please take a moment this Independence Day to reach out to the servicemen and women in your lives to show your gratitude. Their dedication to the preservation of the country is the embodiment of American fortitude, and it’s the very reason our Democracy is the most prosperous, longest-standing system of government in the world.

When the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, our country officially declared its liberation from British rule. Our brave founding fathers set in motion a course of history that would grow the fledgling nation into the most powerful in the world.

Over more than two centuries our Constitution has evolved into its current form – and it won’t stop there. The beauty of our form of government lies in its ability to respond to the changing needs of the people it represents. I am proud to be both a member of this country and a lawmaker working to protect the sanctity of Democracy and the residents of Missouri. Please enjoy your time with family, friends and neighbors this holiday and have a happy and safe Independence Day.

As always, please feel free to contact me or my staff with any questions or concerns at any time. We look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions and trying to answer any questions you may have. You can reach us by phone at 866-277-0882 (toll-free) or
