We have now concluded the third week of the legislative session. The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food Production, and Outdoor Resources heard two bills I sponsored.

Each year farm corporations have to file reports with the Secretary of State’s office. Senate Bill 664 says if nothing has changed since the last filing, these reports don’t have to be submitted. By eliminating the requirement to file the annual report farmers can focus on the day to day job of maintaining and operating their farms.

This year through Senate Bill 665 I am attempting to reorganize fees the Department of Agriculture charges people who join AgriMissouri. Additionally, the department will only be allowed to collect enough fees to maintain the program. The job of running a farm is already challenging enough. Through this program the department is offering to help you with the task of promoting your business. This program is a great tool. AgriMissouri offers marketing promotions and training opportunities to help your businesses. You can learn more about AgriMissouri by visiting their website agrimissouri.com

I look forward to seeing this and other meaningful proposals move through the legislative process this year. Please feel free to contact my office if you have any questions regarding legislative activity in Jefferson City.

Visitors this week were: Leroy Van Dyke (Country Music Artist/Entertainer), Gladys Van Dyke, their grandson Wyatt, John Shelton, Elvin Yoder, Luke Beaman, and Becky Schofield (Dallas County Treasurer).
