SB 679 - Under current law, candidates for county collector, treasurer, and collector-treasurer must present a signed affidavit from a surety company indicating that the candidate meets the statutory bond requirements for office.

This act specifies that the candidate has to present the copy of the affidavit within six business days of filing for office and that the affidavit has to indicate the candidate is eligible to obtain a bond in an amount that meets the statutory requirements.

In addition, this act requires candidates for the office of public administrator to provide to the election authority, within six business days of filing for office, a copy of a signed affidavit from two or more securities indicating that the candidate is eligible to meet the bonding requirements.

This act is similar to SB 92 (2015) and a certain provision of this act is similar to HCS/SS/SCS/SB 698 (2016), HCS/SB 577 (2016), and SB 495 (2015).
