Current Bill Summary

SB 529 - Current law makes it a crime to board a bus with a dangerous or deadly weapon or carry such a weapon in a terminal.

This act provides that a person carrying a concealed firearm who possesses a valid concealed carry permit or endorsement must not be prohibited or impeded from accessing or using any publicly funded transportation system. The person may not be harassed or detained for carrying a concealed firearm on the property of such systems.

This act does not apply to buses operated by or under contract with an elementary, secondary, or vocational school or higher education institution unless the school allows the carrying of concealed firearms on buses. It also does not apply to property of Amtrak or any partnership that Amtrak engages in.

A person carrying a concealed firearm on a transportation system must not be prohibited from acting in self defense or defense of others as allowed by law.

This act is identical to HB 1080 (2015).
