Sworn into office on Jan. 5, 2011, to serve the 26th Senatorial District, Sen. Brian Nieves serves Franklin and west St. Louis County in the Missouri Senate. In the upper chamber, he serves in a leadership role as Senate Majority Caucus Whip.

Senator Nieves serves as chair of the General Laws Committee, and also serves as a member of the Education Committee; Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee; Veterans’ Affairs and Health Committee; Joint Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect; Joint Committee on Education; the Advisory Committee on Tobacco Securitization; and the Missouri Humanities Council Trust Fund.

Before he was elected to the Senate, Sen. Nieves served the 98th House District as a Missouri State Representative for eight years from 2002-2010. During his time in the Missouri House, he served as the House Majority Whip.

Born June 19, 1965, Sen. Nieves is a 1983 graduate of Pacific High School in Franklin County. After graduating, he was proud to become a second generation serviceman and joined the U.S. Navy. The senator served 10 years as a corpsman. He considers it a high honor and blessing that most of his duty assignments found him alongside Marines.

Now a small business owner, Sen. Nieves owns Nieves Enterprises International, The Patriot Enclave LLC, and is a second-generation, part owner of Hwy 66 Auto Sales. He also served as a substitute high school teacher, is on the Leadership Board and Ministry Team at his church, and is a business speaker, concentrating in the areas of professional development, leadership, and team building.

He and his wife Julie have been married since 1986 and have three children: Alexandra, Moriah, and Victor. Senator Nieves and his family enjoy living amongst family and friends in Washington, Mo.
