Current Bill Summary

SB 879 - This act provides that certain offenders, who have not committed certain dangerous or repeat offenses, shall receive credit in terms of days spent in confinement when the offender successfully completes an institutional program within the department of corrections for substance and alcohol abuse. For each day of participation in the completed program, such offender shall receive one-half of one day of additional credit for time served. The program must require the offender to live in an area designated for treatment in the facility during the time in which the offender is in treatment. Any credit received shall only apply to the sentence which the offender is currently serving. Participation in such programs is at the discretion of the department as provided by law.
