SB 175 – This act requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to produce "The Parents' Bill of Rights," to inform parents of children with an individualized education program of their educational rights under federal and state law by January 1, 2010. The publication must contain ten points of information, which are described in the act. Each school district must provide a copy of "The Parents' Bill of Rights" at least ten days prior to the IEP meeting to the parent or parents of a child with an IEP. At the meeting, the parents must indicate whether they have received it. This act is similar to HB 526 (2009) and a provision contained in HCS/SB 79 (2009) and HCS#2/SS/SB 291 (2009). MICHAEL RUFF
