Senate Interim Committee on Funding for County Sheriff Offices

The committee shall consist of five members, three from the Majority Party, and two from the Minority Party. The duties of the committee shall be:

1) Review current court costs, fees and other funding mechanisms relating to the operation of law enforcement or civil justice-related activities of county Sheriff departments
2) Study the current compensation formulas for deputy sheriffs in Missouri counties
3) Compare compensation of deputy sheriffs across different county classifications in Missouri and neighboring states

The committee shall be staffed by counsel from Senate Research and may hold public hearings at locations to be determined by the chairman. Reasonable, actual and necessary expenses of the committee shall be reimbursed by the Missouri Senate.

The committee shall issue a report on current funding of county sheriff departments statewide and make recommendations for changes as deemed necessary by a majority of the members of the committee to the General Assembly no later than January 1, 2008, for legislative action.
