Current Bill Summary

SB 701 - This act licenses prescribing psychologists and confers the authority to prescribe psychotropic medicine. Licensees shall not be allowed to order electrical convulsive therapy.

As a prerequisite to licensure a licensee must:

• Complete 300 hours of didactic educational instruction.

• Complete a 1 year supervised fellowship with a full-time caseload of patients and provide medication management, psychological evaluations, and therapeutic services.

• Pass a national exam.

• Complete a 1 years practice supervised by a physician after receiving a license.

• Maintain medical liability insurance.

Licensees may prescribe under a collaborative practice agreement after the first year of licensure.

This act is identical to HB 350 (2007).
