HCS/HB 892 - This act provides that every veteran who honorably served in the U.S. military any time between August 2, 1990 and January 1, 2015, during a declared war or conflict, shall be entitled to receive a medal of freedom, medallion, and certificate, provided that the veteran is a legal resident of the state, or was a legal resident of the state at the time he or she entered or was discharged from military service or at the time of his or her death, and such veteran was honorably discharged or was in active service in honorable status at the time of his or her death.

The Adjutant General shall administer the provisions of this act, and shall adopt all rules necessary to do so. Applications shall be filed with the adjutant general's office at any time after January 1, 2010, on forms prescribed and furnished by the office. Applications may also be made by a spouse or the eldest surviving relative of eligible deceased veterans, who shall be entitled to receive such medal, medallion, and certificate on behalf of the deceased veteran.

The Veterans' Commission shall design the form of the medal, medallion, and certificate, and may solicit potential designs from elementary and secondary schools, veterans' groups, civic organizations or any other interested party. The commission shall forward approved designs to the adjutant general for distribution.

The provisions of this act are identical to SB 599 (2007).
