SCS/HCS/HB 894 - Independent candidates in general elections must file a written declaration of intent to run for statewide office, Congress, the state Senate, state House of Representatives, Circuit Judge, or local office on the same day candidates are required to file a declaration of candidacy for the primary election. The Secretary of State shall not accept petitions for the nomination of independent candidates unless the candidate has filed a declaration of intent.

Section 115.241 requiring party emblems to be printed on ballots is repealed.

Candidates for public office shall be disqualified from participating in elections if the person is delinquent in the payment of certain taxes to the state.

This act is similar to SB 409 (2007).
