HCS/HB 181 - Beginning January 1, 2008, this act requires each publisher or manufacturer of electronic video instructional materials to provide closed or open captioning on such materials designed for use in educational institutions. This requirement shall not apply to certain materials and transmission methods. If a publisher fails to comply with the requirements, the entity that paid for the materials may receive damages of 3 times the amount paid to have them captioned. This act is similar to SB 435 (2007).
