SCS/SB 898 - This act modifies provisions regarding members of the military and their families. Current law authorizes Johnson County to plan and zone an area surrounding a military base located in the county, provided that the county has a zoning commission and a board of adjustment. This act removes the requirement that the county must have such a commission and board. Johnson County is authorized to adopt and enforce airport hazard area zoning regulations that are substantially similar to current airport zoning and regulation laws, with certain variances from the current laws. The act adds the chairman of the Missouri veteran's commission as an ex officio member of the Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission. The chair of the Missouri Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission is added as an ex officio member of the Missouri veteran's commission.
Any child who has successfully completed an accredited pre-kindergarten or kindergarten program in another state shall be eligible for admission into kindergarten in this state. The state board of education is required to promulgate a rule to permit the issuance of a provisional certificate of license permitting the holder to assume classroom duties pending the completion of the required background check when the applicant is the spouse of a military member stationed in Missouri who has relocated in the past year, provided the applicant otherwise qualifies and the other state required a background check for the issuance of a teaching certificate.
