AN ACT

To amend chapter 37, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to the office of inspector general.


 

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:

            Section A. Chapter 37, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 37.015, to read as follows:

            37.015. There is hereby established within the office of administration the "Office of Inspector General". There shall be in said office an inspector general, who shall be the administrative head of said office and who shall be appointed for a term of five years by a majority vote of the attorney general, the state auditor, and the governor. The office of inspector general shall:

            (1) Act to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse in the expenditure of public funds, whether state, federal, or local, in programs and operations of state government, local governments, and private entities accepting public funds. This shall include but not be limited to private entities performing functions previously performed by state or local government but which have been privatized;

            (2) Act to ensure that tax credits offered under state statute are being used for the purpose stated under the applicable state statute.
