SJR 39 - Currently, the State Board of Education constitutes eight lay members whose terms of office are eight years each. Subject to voter approval, this resolution changes from eight to six the number of lay members on the board. Further, the resolution alters the length of such terms to three years, with one reappointment possible. Also, the act seeks to alter from four to three the number of lay members which may be affiliated with any major political party. Lastly, the resolution seeks to add three active classroom teachers to the board, the terms of whom shall be three years with no reappointment potential.
