AN ACT

To amend chapter 335, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to nursing.


Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 335, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 335, to read as follows:

335.600. 1. The office of administration shall conduct a study addressing the nursing shortage in this state and the cost-effectiveness of increasing efforts to improve recruitment of nurses at both public and private health care institutions, to increase enrollment of nursing students at Missouri schools of nursing, and to provide incentives to retain nurses in this state.

2. The commissioner of the office of administration shall appoint an advisory panel of nurses. It shall be composed of not more than nine members representing practical, associate degree, diploma, baccalaureate and graduate nursing education, community health, primary care, hospital, long-term care, a consumer, and the Missouri state board of nursing. The panel shall make written recommendations to the commissioner by July 1, 2005 on the cost-effectiveness of addressing the nursing shortage by increasing efforts in the areas described in subsection 1 of this section.
