STATE SEN. JOHN GRIESHEIMER, SANFORD-BROWN COLLEGE AWARD SCHOLARSHIP TO SENIOR AT WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL

JEFFERSON CITY -- State Sen. John Griesheimer, R-Washington, and Sanford-Brown College, announced today that Kelly Volmer has been named an inaugural recipient of the school's 2003 Legislative Scholarship.

Volmer, a Washington resident, plans to se her full-tuition scholarship to pursue and Associate Degree in Radiography at Sanford-Brown College's Fenton campus.

"I was honored to nominate Jessica for this scholarship," said Sen. Griesheimer. "I sincerely congratulate her for being chosen, but most importantly, for recognizing the value of continuing her education and pursuing her dreams. I applaud Sanford-Brown College for establishing such a wonderful and inspiring scholarship program. Sanford-Brown is a valuable resource to our community, and I thank them for the opportunity to be a part of the school's vision."

Through private donations, Sanford-Brown College established the $1 million annual legislative scholarship in April 2002, making this year's graduating high school seniors the first eligible to participate. The Sanford-Brown Scholarship Committee selected Bray from among 15 applicants.

"Kelly is a bright and determined person, and I believe we offer the foundation to help her succeed," said James Howard, president of Sanford Brown College. "We're off to a great start and expect the Legislative scholarship program to continue for years to come. We're grateful to Sen. Griesheimer and the others like him, who accepted our challenge to promote education in Missouri and help bring post-secondary trade or business training to those who might not otherwise afford the opportunity."

The scholarships, designed much like congressional appointments to America's military colleges, allow Missouri state senators and representatives to nominate up to six individuals within their legislative districts for full and partial tuition in 74 different categories of educational programs leading to diploma or associate degrees. The programs range in length from 30 weeks through two years, and are available through all four Sanford-Brown College's Missouri campuses - all of which are accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ASICS).
