SEN. JOHN LOUDON SPONSORS THE APPOINTMENT OF DOUGLAS D. MORGAN TO THE MISSOURI STATE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' DEFERRED COMPENSATION COMMISSION

JEFFERSON CITY -- State Sen. John Loudon, R-West St. Louis County, has successfully sponsored the appointment of Douglas D. Morgan, Chesterfield, to the Missouri State Public Employees' Deferred Compensation Commission.

"Mr. Morgan has extensive business experience and he will be a real asset to this commission," said Loudon.

Morgan is currently the president of Self Storage System Co., and the vice president of M&M Properties. He serves on the board of Commercial Bank, is a board member of the Missouri Employers Insurance Company and is chairman of the St. Louis Planning and Zoning Commission.

In addition, Morgan is active in numerous civic organizations including chairman of Metrowide American Cancer Society, is an honorary member of the Florissant Rotary Club and is a past board member of the St. Louis Area Food Bank.

Created by legislation in 1974, the deferred compensation program permits state employees to have part of their compensation placed in a deferred compensation fund and invested for later disbursement.

The five-member State Public Employees' Deferred Compensation Commission administers the program.

The governor makes appointments to state boards and commissions with the advice and consent of the Senate.

The Senate Committee on Gubernatorial Appointments usually meets weekly during the legislative session. Their sponsoring senator presents each appointee to the committee.

Once the committee has approved appointments, the chairman reports on the committee's action to the floor for consideration by the full Senate.

Appointees must be approved by the committee and confirmed by the full Senate before taking the position on the board or the committee.
