Born January 20, 1955, in San Francisco. Graduated from San Clemente (Ca.) High School, 1973; Saddleback Junior College, Mission Viejo, Ca. (A.A., 1976); University of Northern Colorado (B.A., business management administration, 1978).

He and his wife, Sandra, have four children: Kristin, Elizabeth, William and Carlton. Formerly a quarterback with the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. He is a real estate broker.

Member: Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce; Athletes in Action; Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Awards: Outstanding Young Alumni, University of Northern Colorado (1985); Pro Bowl, AFC (1984); Most Valuable Player, Kansas City Chiefs, 1983; Athlete of the Year, Variety Club, Iowa 1981. Elected to the Senate: 1994.
