Current Bill Summary

SB 570 - This act transfers the duties of emergency medical technician (EMT) licensure from the Department of Health to the Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Currently, Sections 190.142 through 190.171, RSMo, outline licensure procedures for EMTs. These sections are repealed and reenacted as Sections 334.480 through 334.492.

Section 334.480 creates the "Advisory Commission for Emergency Medical Technicians" which will advise, assist, and make recommendations to the Board and approve the EMT licensing exam. The Commission consists of nine members. All staff and funding will be provided by the Board. The Commission must at least hold quarterly meetings. Section 334.483.4(3) contains new language to ensure that EMTs only practice in an emergency situation by providing pre-hospital care or during transport.
