SB 547 - This act revises the election process for members of the school board of certain urban school districts, currently including Kansas City Missouri School District (KCMSD). The KCMSD school board currently consists of nine members, three elected at-large and six elected, one each, from six subdistricts.

The act provides that, for elections occurring after the effective date of the act, new members shall be elected for those members whose terms expire, and all new members shall be elected at-large. Each voter may vote for as many candidates as are to be elected, and the members elected shall be those candidates receiving the most votes. A candidate must get signatures of at least five hundred registered voters in the district to be placed on the ballot. All candidates and board members shall reside in the district.
