Current Bill Summary

SB 483 - This act requires that a minimum level of salary schedule credit be given to public school teachers who change employment from one Missouri school district to another as specified in the act. Beginning with the 2001-2002 school year, teachers who have been employed for a year or more will receive credit for each year of service up to 5 years if they take a position in another district. Each school year thereafter, the minimum years credited will increase in increments of one year, culminating in up to 10 years of credit in the 2006-2007 school year. School districts may offer credit for service in excess of this schedule of minimum amounts.

The act also specifies that should a court ultimately decide that the revenue limitations of Article X, Section 16 of the Missouri Constitution apply to this act, then necessary funds would be appropriated from the State Lottery Fund or the General Revenue Fund to provide funding for the requirements of this act.
