Senator Wieland Applauds Governor for Release of $3 Million in Funding for Missouri’s River Ports

JEFFERSON CITY — Today (4-3), the governor announced he was releasing $3 million in Fiscal Year 2015 funding for infrastructure improvements to Missouri’s river ports. The announcement comes just days after Sen. Paul Wieland, R-Imperial, hosted a news conference calling on the governor to release the money.

“I’m very pleased the governor has announced the release of the $3 million in Fiscal Year 2015 funding for Missouri’s ports, and I sincerely want to thank him for his decision,” said Sen. Wieland. “My fellow lawmakers and I have worked incredibly hard this session to see those funds released. Our river ports are a great investment, with an enormous amount of untapped potential. I also want to thank all of my colleagues, in both the House and Senate, who helped bring attention to this important issue.”

On Tuesday, Sen Wieland was joined at a news conference by Senators Wayne Wallingford, R-Cape Girardeau, and Doug Libla, R-Poplar Bluff, as well as Representatives Tila Hubrecht, R-Dexter; John McCaherty, R-High Ridge; Becky Ruth, R-Festus; and Craig Redmon, R-Canton.

In addition to hosting the news conference, Senator Wieland sent a letter to the governor in late March requesting the release of FY 2015 port funding. Eight fellow senators joined Sen. Wieland in signing the letter.

“Today, the governor has shown real leadership in releasing these funds and clearing the way for our ports to bring much-needed jobs and economic activity to the Show-Me State,” said Sen. Wieland.
