Legislative Column for the Week of Jan. 9, 2015

First Week in the Senate

Sen. Schatz is sworn into office in front of Missouri Senate and visitors.

JEFFERSON CITY — My first legislative session as your Missouri Senator is now underway.  The first days were filled with the swearing in of myself and five other Senators, attending meetings, events and settling into my new role in the General Assembly.

While no legislation has been taken up for debate yet, our office is already hard at work serving the 26th. Our office is up and running, fielding calls and emails from constituents, and researching legislation for our district.  We were glad to host many friends during inauguration and the inaugural ball and I am looking forward to seeing many more constituents throughout the legislative session.

During my first day, despite no legislation being formally debated, I was able to make my first floor motion and announce the first physician of the day as Dr. John Hagen, a pediatric anesthesia specialist. Dr. Hagan is a resident of the 26th District and it was a pleasure to meet and introduce him to my colleagues on the Senate Floor.

It is an honor to have been elected to serve as the Senator for the 26th Senatorial District. I would be happy to speak with you either in my office or in district. Call my office staff and together we can work to find a time and location that works best for all involved. Please feel free to drop by my office, Room 433, in the beautiful Missouri Capitol.

Thank you for reading this weekly column. You can contact my office at (573) 751-3678 if you have any questions.
