Sen. Gary Romine Named to
Senate Transportation Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — State Senator Gary Romine, R-Farmington, has been appointed by the Senate president pro tem to serve on the Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee.

“I’m honored to be chosen as a member of the Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee. From the ambulance responding to an emergency in rural Missouri to the bridge you cross on your way to work, our transportation system connects us to each other and Missouri’s goods to businesses in neighboring towns, states and beyond,” said Sen. Romine. “Unfortunately, a perfect storm of circumstances has led to a situation in which the Missouri Department of Transportation will very soon be facing a severe funding shortfall — forcing the department to prioritize the roads and bridges it maintains.”

The Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee is charged with considering legislation concerning roads, highways, bridges, airports and aviation, railroads, port authorities and other means of transportation; motor vehicles, motor vehicle registration and drivers’ licenses; and matters relating to the safety of the general public.

“We’ve reached a critical point where we must find solutions in order to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system,” Sen. Romine said. “I look forward to working with my fellow committee members during the upcoming session as we develop new, innovative ways to fund the maintenance of our roads and bridges for years to come.”
