Willow Springs Hosts Bear City Fall Festival

The weekend of Oct. 3, the Village of Willow Springs hosted its annual Bear City Fall Festival, causing the town’s population to double in size during the six-hour celebration. This annual event is always a favorite of mine as it offers so many activities for people of all ages.

This festival truly highlights some of the great Ozark area pasttimes. Those in attendance were treated to a black powder re-enactment, a working portable sawmill and even a wood cutting contest. It is a true joy to see youth marvel at the working sawmill demonstrations and black powder re-enactment. The young people in attendance really seemed to soak up every detail of the activities as they saw history come to life for a brief time.

It was a pleasure to walk through the quilt show, and the pie contest was simply amazing. Whether it was the intricate work on the quilts, woodworking or the restored vehicles, tractors and motorcycles on display, the dedication and talent was evident in every exhibit   submitted to the festival.

I enjoyed seeing all of the demonstrations, and especially watching the children experience hands-on learning and having fun at the same time. These types of events are where memories are made, for people of all ages. I am glad to have been a part of it this year and   look forward to next year’s Bear City Fall Festival.

As always, I appreciate it when groups from around Missouri and from our community back home come to visit me at the Capitol. If you would like to arrange a time to come and visit me in Jefferson City, or if you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact my Capitol office at (573) 751-1882.
